| Authors@Google: Robert Zuckerman |
 |
The Authors@Google program was thrilled to
welcome acclaimed photograper and author
Robert Zuckerman to the Google NY office to
discuss his book "Kindsight".
Known for his work doing photography for
motion pictures, Zuckerman's imagery has
appeared in advertising and publicity for
such films as The Crow, I Know What You Did
Last Summer, Any Given Sunday, Training Day,
Terminator 3, Bad Boys 2 and National
Treasure and for such television shows as
"The Shield" and "Nip/Tuck." He has also
photographed campaigns for United Way and
City of Hope. Through the years he has
photographed numerous family portraits,
weddings, pregnancy pictures and other human
celebrations for people of all walks of life,
from top celebrities to inner city residents
to AIDS patients and others among the less
fortunate. A graduate of UC Berkeley and The
American Film Institute, Zuckerman
co-produced the groundbreaking, award winning
Video from Russia: The People Speak (1984,
directed by Dimitri Devyatkin) which ran on
ABC and then on A&E for three years, and he
directed and produced the New York City
portion of the official "Hands Across
America" video in 1986.
"For me, photography as much as possible has
become an integration of life and craft.
Through it I am able to give value to
people's lives and derive value in my own
life, beyond making a living," says
Zuckerman. In his book the unusual and frank
photos celebrate the beauty of random human
encounters and turn everyday life experiences
into profound visual testaments.
Kindsight is a collection of photographs and
accompanying texts by Zuckerman illuminating
the richness of everyday life encounters and
experiences. From taxi and bus drivers to
waitresses, plumbers and kids at a
playground, Kindsight shows the extraordinary
within the ordinary. As one reader-viewer
states, these pieces "see something in
everything." The book includes texts by Will
Smith, Debra Winger and Michael Lally, among
others. Kindsight has Been Awarded Honorable
Mention in the 2005 International Photography
Awards (IPA Lucie) in the Book -
