Vaikka Taisto Tammi menetti merkitystään
60-luvun jälkipuoliskolla levytähtenä,
hän säilytti asemansa lavasuosikkina
keikkaillen ahkerimmillaan joka ilta.
Laulaminen oli hänelle henki ja elämä,
minkä vuoksi hän nautti alalla laajaa
arvostusta mutkattomana ja luotettavana
puurtajana. Myös yleisö aisti hänen
luontaisen vaatimattomuutensa, mikä tuli
hyvin ilmi hänen esiintymisessään niin
estradilla kuin sen ulkopuolellakin.
70-luvun puolivälissä Taisto Tammi teki
komean comebackin (Muistojeni Ruusut 1976)
lähinnä vanhoista tutuista sävelmistä
uusina sovituksina koostuvan kahden LP:n
voimin. Ensimmäinen niistä, Taisto Tammi
laulaa kotimaisia tangoja, julkaistiin vuonna
1975 Finnlevy-merkillä, ja siihen sisältyi
mm. Tammen tulkinta toisen romanilaulajan
Taisto Ahlgrenin(Tammen serkku) laulamana
tunnetuksi tekemästä tangosta Pettäjän
tie.
