| Rocketplane XP - Reach suborbital spaces |
 |
With our Rocketplane XP you will reach at the
end of 2009 highest altitudes: more as 62
miles!
Your route will bring you first to an
altitude of nearly 20,000 feet... then the
rockets are fired and you're propelled
through the clouds to a height of 34 miles --
five times higher than an intercontinental
passenger's flight. You feel 3.5 G's of force
and a level of exhilaration known to few.
When the Rocketplane® reaches the prime
height, the rocket boosters switch off and
airspeed reaches 2,100 miles per hour, more
than three times the speed of sound... and
your altitude quickly reaches an amazing 62
miles high!
We are now accepting bookings! Reserve your
place today and join the pioneers of
passenger astronautics!!

| Suborbital Dream Chaserâ„¢ |
 |
The Dream Chaserâ„¢ spaceship has a long and
successful history. The vehicle is based on
the NASA Langley Research Center's ten
passenger orbital HL-20, also known as the
Personnel Launch System and the Space Taxi.
The HL-20, in turn, was based on the Soviet
BOR-4, and thus has significant orbital
heritage. The Dream Chaser launches
vertically from a concrete pad, and with
wings and its lifting body shape, has the
ability to perform a graceful, careful
re-entry into the atmosphere and glide
significant distances to its standard,
commercial runway. Tags : spacedev benson_space jim_benson space |

| ATK ALV X-1 suborbital rocket destroyed |
 |
Presented by http://collectSPACE.com — The
Source for Space History and Artifacts.
An Alliant Techsystems (ATK) suborbital
rocket carrying two NASA hypersonic
experiments was destroyed shortly after
liftoff from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility
in Virginia Friday, August 22. No injuries or
property damage were immediately reported.
The launch marked the first flight of ATK's
ALV-X1 suborbital rocket. On-board the
53-foot tall rocket were NASA's Hypersonic
Boundary Layer Transition (HYBOLT) and the
Sub-Orbital Aerodynamic Re-entry Experiment
(SOAREX) payloads as well as a U.S. Naval
Research Laboratory receiver and transmitter
intended to help with ocean recovery.

| Suborbital Marines |
 |
My 3D animation final project depicting
futuristic marines' ability to launch into
space and land on anywhere in the world
within minutes. I was inspired by an article
from Popular Science about an actual USMC
project called SUSTAIN -

The suborbital space craft models I created
were based on designs by Peter Bollinger who
did the illustrations for the Popular Science
article.
