| Knife Storage by Nutnfancy |
 |
By request, here are some methods by
Nutnfancy of how to keep your knives
organized and secure. Without a system, your
knives can get lost, damaged, or stolen.
Using various cost-effective containers, it's
pretty easy to create a system that is
accessible and easily transported to and from
your secure location, like a safe. Store
your knives is pouches and then keep them
portable and dry using Rubbermaid Roughneck
containers (or something similar as
shown).//////////////////////// Shown are
California Competition Works pistol magazine
pouches (up to 140mm in length) which double
nicely for folding knife storage. There are
available at several sites buy Brownells.com
carries them. The following are the current
Brownells stock numbers for those pouches,
avail. in various colors (subject to
change/cancellation): Small knife pouch in
OD #151-212-003, 4 pistol mag (med/lrg
folders) pouch, OD #151-199-007, 6 pouch in
OD #151-200-007, 8 pouch in OD #151-201-007.
The 18 pouch carry case by PVK (Pioneer
Valley Knife and Tool) is made by several
manufacturers and is the most cost effective
and space efficient systems found so far. | Survival Skills: Making a Deer Snare by Nutnfancy, Part 1 |
 |
PART 1 of 2:
A scenic wilderness video by Nutnfancy
showing how to construct an effective deer
snare with a KaBar Marine Combat knife and
Leatherman Charge Ti. Unlike some survival
shows that pretty much promote
non-preparedness, Nutnfancy always recommends
going into the woods prepared with sensible
emergency tools. Using such tools, the video
shows step-by-step design of the this on-site
design, safety and game behavioral
considerations, common sense philosophy, and
construction elements . Two nails are used
to save time but they could be substituted by
fabricated sticks. Also I would actually
reinforce that sapling for further spring
strength should I have needed such a trap.
Both the Charge Ti and the KaBar Utility
knife performed admirably. Please note also,
all components were fully dismantled after
the shoot and no game was ever taken.
Faithful companion, Allie the Mountain Dog,
is nearby on this excursion to the stunningly
beautiful Rocky Mountain area, wooded with
Quaking Aspens in the fall colors. Finally,
some footage of this scenery and the hike in
is included also to give you a little sense
of the adventure that day.
SERIOUSLY: Please do not attempt to make and
set this trap unless your life depends on
procuring wild game. It is cruel, usually
illegal, and inhumane to construct and use
such a trap when it isnt absolutely needed.
Nutnfancy supports the harvesting and use of
game animals when necessary but is adamantly
opposed to cruelty, poaching, or gratuitous
killing. These instructions are intended to
arm you with confidence and knowledge to get
both large and small game in dire
circumstances. They are NOT intended for
sport, fun, showing off, curing boredom, for
acting cool, or other Tom Foolery. Also any
comments from perhaps the less mature few
like Hey why didnt you have your dog test it!
will not be entertained and will result the
individual being blocked from the Nutnfancy
Project. Thanks for understanding. | Obligation of Carry by Nutnfancy |
 |
Deciding to be an armed, licensed civilian is
serious business. Mature, sound judgment and
preparation in every facet of this decision
must be exercised. And doing so is not
cheap, its not convenient, it requires a
perishable skill set, and its complicated by
many legalities. Also expect you, the armed
civilian, to be completely misrepresented by
the media, lambasted and characterized as a
fringe, paranoid, and borderline un-safe
person. Hogwash. But that flak youll get
does not change the realities of you choosing
to be legally armed. Nutnfancy says YOU do
incur an Obligation of Carry if you decide to
walk society as a CCW (Concealed Carry
Weapon) ior CCP (Pistol) individual. You
absolutely must have your gun on you to the
maximum extent possibleno joke. Yes there
are places where being armed is illegal and
inappropriate but there are lot of places
where it is not. In fact most places, at
least in the US. In this video Nutnfancy
addresses the biggest folly of most guys and
gals who have gone to the effort of licensing
and buying their pistol for legal carry:
they just do not carry it. Why is that?
Chances are they have chosen a bad system
(Nutnfancy term) of carry. Perhaps a bulky
or heavy gun that requires special dress and
carriage that rapidly becomes so taxing that
its soon left at home. Ive seen this
phenomena for many times over many years: big
talk about a big gun but soon that big gun is
left at home and by doing so that CCW holder
has abandoned his responsibility as a sheep
dog keeping himself and good people safe. I
advocate carrying as big a gun as you can but
you MUST carry it as much as possible. And
yes, there are bad people who have done (and
could do) bad things to yourself and the
innocent people around you. The main focus of
this video is another mass shooting by such
an individual. Defending against a murdering
bad guy in a public place is serious business
and it requires preparation, mental
exactitude, and commitment. And it is
fraught with lots of serious, pressured
judgments and perhaps legal and civil
implications (not discussed). But the good
sheep of the world, along with you and your
family, do indeed merit defense. And since
you will be there right along with these
people, threatened with death in such a
scenario, that might be YOUR calling that day
as an armed, responsible civilian. And do
not think the police can get there in time
and save these lives; they most often will
not despite their best efforts (witness
Trolley Square UT, Colorado Springs CO,
Stockton CA, Lubys Killen TX, Virginia Tech
VA shootings). And often when they do, they
still have to formulate their
responsesometimes even as the shootings
continue (Columbine). If you are not willing
to fulfill the obligation of carry, for you,
your friends, your family, and all good
people nearby you, then you would be better
served NOT getting your carry permit and NOT
carrying. You will save lots of hassle and
money in the process and the end result for
society will be the same. However if you
join our ranks, then do so with a commitment.
A commitment to find a carry system that
will works for you 24/7, 365 in all
appropriate places. It might just be that
workable system is a .380, .38 Special, .32,
or even a .25 auto pistol. So be it. At
least you will be armed and with that
armament you will have some options. It
doesnt matter how cool, how powerful, how
much firepower your wonder gun has if its
sitting in the gun safe at home when that
madman decides to kill good people that day.
And there youll be caught flatfooted watching
people die. So whats your FIRST Obligation
of Carry? Having it with you. It can save
livesperiod.
NOTE: This video and advice makes no attempt
to address your specific legalities and makes
no recommendations of such. It is incumbent
on you, the permit holder, to exercise good
judgment and comply with your laws. Enough
said. Tags : concealed carry permit pistol handgun weapon sheepdog jeanne assam trolley square virginia tech shootings madmen stockton luby's cafeteria fairchild afb Dean Mellberg sra andrew brown security policeman |

| Free Hand Sharpening by Nutnfancy |
 |
After like a hundred requests I'm compelled
to do a sharpening video...maybe more to
follow. Using an EZE-LAP Fine Diamond oval
shaped diamond sharpener (Knivesplus.com,
EZ-D10F, $19) and a 13" Lansky sharpening
steel, I show how I re-sharpen an AG Russell
kitchen knife. Keep your edge angle very
consistent on both rods, using enough passes
to bring out the edge you desire. The
diamond stone actually produces micro
serrations in the steel which will cut very
effectively. I find the edge is more durable
and even sharper however if honed a bit on
the steel, using care not to roll the tip (in
video). I do use other systems occasionally
but this is my current favorite. That's
because this is the fastest way I'm able to
bring out an edge again in a knife.
Note: Suppliers and models of the referenced
sharpeners will change. I note my original
sources for reference and to maybe help save
you time. Tags : nutnfancy knife sharpening lansky edgemaker ceramic diamond rod spyderco sharpmaker free hand fitzen knives kitchen blade ag Russell grind full flat ground vg10 stainless steel |

| Survival Skills: Firemaking, Southeast US by Nutnfancy |
 |
PART 1 OF 2:
A detailed fire making exercise in the
Southeastern United States by Nutnfancy.
Quite a different climate and foliage than
the usual Nutnfancy Knife Clinic in the Rocky
Mountains, this southern location provided an
equally excellent location for wilderness
craft. Tools used included the excellent,
high value KaBar Heavy Bowie and Cold Steel
Roach Belly knives, a Sawvivor backpacking
saw, WD40, and a Light My Fire flint and
steel. All came along and were used for
demonstration purposes but not necessarily by
necessity. The intent is to show viable
backpacking fire tools that will get the job
doneweight and compactness for carry purposes
being important considerations. The secret
time-saving weapon in this particular
time-crunched clinic was one stick of
fatwood, discussed in the video. Safety
considerations, chopping, cutting, knife
philosophy, and fire building techniques are
necessarily discussed as the work progresses
in this two-part series. If the response is
good, I may do more wilderness skills videos
but they might be few since they take a lot
of work and are time-consuming. | Backpacking System, Extended Stay by Nutnfancy, Part 1 |
 |
PART 1 of 8:
A detailed review and philosophy about one of
Nutnfancys backpacking systems. This system
sides with the firepower side of my mobility
vs firepower thesis i.e. that which will
provide high capabilities for the given
weight and bulk. The gear shown and
discussed is designed for establishing a base
camp near a high mountain lake about 8 to 15
miles deep into remote and steep Rocky
Mountain terrain, at around 10,000 or more
elevation. And yes there are still lots of
places like this that still exist. This
system generally does not represent a good
hike through option (ie 10 or so miles hiked
each day to different locations) as theres
too much weight to be carrying in daily long
distance hiking. However if your preference
is to bivouac at a remote and secluded area,
like Nutnfancy, you may find some new ideas
for you here. In this original video series,
you will see a selection of Nutnfancys
clothing, cooking, water prep and storage,
carry, knife and tool, fire making, sleeping,
shelter, first aid, nautical (!), rappelling
(!), and contingency options. Most of the
gear shown has been proven effective for the
purposes discussed and every selection is
scrutinized for it merits and capabilities
for its weight and bulk. Sure this all adds
up to a heavy 80+ lb pack but the
capabilities that it delivers in the high
country will blow all other backpackers
systems away (based on decades of real
experience) and will provide memorable
adventure. Yep, this IS an EIGHT PART series
but as you will see there is A LOT to cover
and its by request by my faithful
subscribers. If youre a hiker, camper,
backpacker, or outdoorsman you may find some
gear and advice herein thats worthwhile. Its
impossible to include every piece of gear and
every consideration in the series so there
might be a few omissions in the seriesI did
the best I could! If the response and
comments are good I may make more backpacking
gear vids.
