Applause is primarily the expression of
approval by the act of clapping, or striking
the palms of the hands together, in order to
create noise; generally any expression of
approval. Audiences are usually expected to
applaud after a performance, such as a
musical concert, speech or play. Applause
should not be confused to clapping with the
rhythm of a song but should have a random,
sporadic matter to it.

If you think the odds of finding anyone to
work part-time Friday and Saturday nights
until 2:00 am are slim - you're right! Every
weekend for nearly 20 years, local legend
Guitar Slim has played the same gig, bringing
his brand of down-home blues to an east side
Cleveland night spot, much to the delight of
his loyal group of fans. The party starts at
9:00 as this cozy neighborhood bar gets
transformed into a southern juke joint called
the Cascade Lounge.

From the late 19th through the early 20th
century, Cleveland built a reputation as an
oasis for progressive planners and architects
- people who displayed their civic vision
through massive public buildings and common
spaces. On this edition of Applause, we're
here to show you that the city still attracts
dreamers and visionaries who want to build
something remarkable... it's just the scale
and locations that have changed.
We'll introduce you to the architect behind a
unique living space on the near West Side of
Cleveland, Robert Maschke. And you'll take a
tour of a house made of straw - yes, straw -
but this is no fairy tale, it's a
revolutionary way to design a house with
eco-friendly materials and gorgeous results.
And architect Dan Bickerstaff, who's gaining
quite a reputation for thinking outside the
box, shares his recently completed
development, Tremont Ridge.
