| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Third Stage |
 |
Racers will likely welcome this relaxed stage
which sports 'only' a relatively short
distance of 27,66 kilometres and a benign
vertical gain of 1,504 meters. Runners have
to take on just a single, fairly continuous
climb to the summit of the Wildkogel (2,224 m
asl). Yet, the 1,400 meters to the peak have
to be earned one way or another and won't
allow for much regeneration after the
extraordinary taxing previous stage. To add
insult to injury, a long, very steep descent
to the stage destination Neukirchen won't be
particularly lenient or helpful to weary
joints and tired muscles. Tags : GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run Marathon Berglauf Mountain Run Alpen Alps Triathlon Laufen alpine |

| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Fourth Stage |
 |
The fourth stage certainly can't be
considered a slouch as it will traverse the
High Divide of the Alps in the spectacular
Hohe Tauern Range. Other peculiarities of
this stage are the border crossing from
Austria to Italy at pass elevation and the
fact that the stage leads through the crown
jewel of Austria's National Park system.
Tomorrow's stage beckons with a serious climb
from a valley elevation of 877 meters to
almost 2,699 meters -- interrupted only by a
gently rising ten-kilometer stretch. Racers
will be happy to reach the highest elevation
not just for the stellar panoramic views
towards the south but because it'll all be
downhill from there to Prettau in the Italian
Ahrn Valley. The stage tallies no less than
46,22 kilometers -- once again exceeding
marathon distance. Tags : GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run Marathon Berglauf Mountain Run Alpen Alps Triathlon Laufen alpine |

| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Sixth Stage |
 |
There's no other way to say it - tomorrow's
warm-up will be brief and that's putting it
nicely. Shortly after the start, the trails
begin to climb and won't let up much in
gradient before the racers scale the highest
elevation (2,792 meters asl) on the 2008
GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run. From there it'll
be all downhill -- relentlessly steep until
the finish line in Antholz, a quaint resort
community well known internationally for its
biathlon competitions. Tags : GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run Marathon Berglauf Mountain Run Alpen Alps Triathlon Laufen alpine |

| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Final (8th) Stage |
 |
Time for final attacks and finishing touches
at the 4th GORE-TEX® Transalpine Run 2008!
Participants will likely give it all, as this
will be their last chance to improve or at
least secure their overall race ranking. The
stage should please the
generalists or allrounders among the racers
as it will neither provide an advantage to
specialists preferring classic marathon
style-running nor experts of steep, technical
trails. In fact, the ultimate stage will
provide a perfect balance of both. Runners
get a chance to warm up and set the pace for
nine kilometers on gently rising terrain
before heading up the steep trails to the
Lückelescharte (2545 meters asl). After a
forced 600-meter descent it'll be back up to
the Gwengalpen Saddle (2,466 meters asl).
From there on, the leading racers will hardly
take a break to marvel over the dramatic
landmark views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
but will hoof it as fast as
possible across the traverse to the
Altenstein Valley. This final, in the upper
sections somewhat technical descent will
require no less than a drop of 1,100 meters
into Sesto / Sexten, where thundering
applause will welcome the finishers of the
2008

| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Second Stage |
 |
The second stage of the GORE-TEX®
Transalpine-Run 2008 may well turn out to be
the toughest of the eight days of extreme
running across the Alps. The racers have
about ten kilometres of relatively flat
terrain to warm
up for what can only be described as a
gruelling series of climbs. Each of the five
ascents will be followed by equally steep
descents that
accumulate not just to lots of lactic acid
but to no less than 2,794 meters of vertical
gain over a whooping distance of 48,56
kilometers. The obvious stage theme for
tomorrow will be: 'Mittersill or bust...
heavy legs
guaranteed'. Tags : GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run Marathon Berglauf Mountain Run Alpen Alps Triathlon Laufen alpine |

| GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2008 Fifth Stage |
 |
Runners will face more vertical descent than
vertical gain on tomorrow's fifth stage.
Still, the day can hardly be called a walk in
the park. A tough climb up to the ski resort
Speikboden (1,984 meters asl) awaits the
racers at the very end of the stage and sets
them up for a final punishing plunge into our
destination Sand in Taufers (870 meters asl).
The stage adds up to 36,82 kilometers in
distance, a cumulative vertical gain of 1447
meters and a total drop of 2,048 meters --
