| Tutankhamen tomb discovered |
 |
The tomb of Tutankhamen, the Pharaoh of the
Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, was discovered
by Howard Carter in 1923. The tomb in the
Valley of the Kings was nearly intact when it
was found and the discovery sparked worldwide
press attention. Thus, Tutankhamen is now one
of the most popular and widely recognised of
Pharaohs. King Tut ruled 1333 BC - 1324 BC.
He began his reign at the age of nine.

| New Earthlike planet discovered Gliese 581c |
 |
For the first time in history, an Earth-like
planet has been discovered orbiting a distant
star.
At only one and a half times the radius of
Earth, Gliese 581 C is the third and smallest
planet to be discovered orbiting a Red Dwarf
star located 20.5 light years away in the
constellation Libra and the first one to
approach the Earth's size. The planet
resides in the star's "Goldilocks Zone" where
liquid water --and life could occur. The
team of Swiss, French and Portuguese
astronomers used the European Southern
Observatory's 3.6 m telescope to make this
incredible discovery. See the video for

| Miracle On Ice, Newly Discovered Original Live Call |
 |
Check out this incredible, newly discovered,
original play-by-play call of The Miracle On
Ice, perhaps the greatest upset in the
history of team sports. When the USA shocked
Russia, 4-3, at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter
Olympics, Curt Chaplin was covering the game
as a sports reporter for the ABC Radio
Network. Standing on a camera platform in
the crowd, he did play-by-play of the entire
game into his tape recorder, capturing the
event on tape forever. Now, after 25 years,
these tapes have been rediscovered and
matched to the video. The result is a
dramatic, stirring and completely original
experience for sports fans all over the
world. Now you can relive the #1 sports
upset of the 20th Century in a whole new way,
through new eyes and a new voice. Still as
fresh and exciting as the day it happened.
If you know any hockey players or hockey
fans, send them the link. They should all

| RNAi Discovered |
 |
oday, scientists are using the RNAi mechanism
to learn more about what particular genes do
and how to alter their function. Determining
gene function is a relatively simple matter
of inserting double-stranded RNA molecules
that have a particular sequence into cells
and observing the effects after RNAi silences
the corresponding gene.
Conceivably, this method may one day be used
to silence gene mutations that cause human
diseases such as Huntington's disease,
rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and many
others. By using either the body's own
mutations or viral invaders, scientists may
develop a new type of drug—for example, one
that switches off the genes of a cancer cell
and leaves healthy cells unaffected. However,
because RNAi's potential effects are so
powerful, scientists must first determine
that they can control the mechanism so that
only the target gene is silenced, and not
others. Tags : RNAi DNAscience richard dawkins ID Intelligent Design Kent hovind ken hamm Biology evolution |

New species of Squid
21 December 2001
Unknown deep-sea squid recorded by Tiburon
MOSS LANDING, California—MBARI remotely
operated vehicle Tiburon recorded
observations of an unknown species of squid
during dives off the coast of Oahu in May
2001. Images of this animal, along with seven
other submersible sightings of apparently
related individuals found at similar depths
in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic, and Indian
Oceans are reported on in this week's issue
of the journal Science. MBARI scientists
estimate that the individual seen by Tiburon
was between four and five meters in length.
