| Augie's Story - produced by Mark Samansky |
 |
The cards were stacked against Augustine
Marquez from the beginning. Born to poor
Mexican migrants in Southern Colorado, Augie
contracted polio in his first year. His
mother passed away at an early age. His
older brother Valentine was his best friend
and protector. Because Augie was crippled he
could only walk for short distances.
Valentine would actually pick up little Augie
in his arms and carry him to school. In 1964
Valentine joined the Army and was sent to
Vietnam. One year later he was killed in
combat. Augie fell apart. He suffered from
severe alcoholism. He was unable to work. He
became homeless. He was thrown in jail an
average of once a week. But...he slowly
turned his life around. This video is just a
brief glimpse into Augie's world today. Tags : alcoholism triumph spiritual toys cars wood carving miracle human interest real |

**ATTENTION HAMSTER OWNERS: Take care of your
pet!! Clean their cage at least once a week,
and play with them too!! Augie died of wet
tail, a very common disease in hamsters,
because of cages not being cleaned often
enough. It is so sad to watch your hamster
die in such pain. Please don't let this
happen to yours!
If you think your hamster has wet tail (if
he/she starts sleeping more than normal,
becomes irritable or starts acting strange),
go to your local pet store IMMEDIATELY and
get some wet tail medicine. It only costs a
few dollars, and it might save your hamster's
life. We were too late.. :(

Bianca's and my hamster, Augie, died today
(coincidentally our 2 year anniversary). This
is footage from when we were away this
weekend - we took Augie with us so we could
give her her medicine and look after her...
She made it all the way home with us, but
couldn't make it up her tube to her loved
"bedroom", where she always slept. She tried
for a week to get up there, but we couldn't
bring her up because we knew she would have
trouble getting back down. When we got home,
she looked as if she were in agonizing pain.
She went from happy hamster, to sleepy
lethargic hamster, to irritable and almost
psychotic... at her last minutes, I picked
her up and placed her in her bedroom, and
closed the lid - a vibrant green-blue tinted
plastic hinged door. She gazed up, as if
remembering the colors and comfort of her
habitat...and layed down to die, not 2
minutes later.
RIP Augie. We are proud to have had you, play
with you, and call you our pet for so long.
We are so happy you were able to go where you
wanted to be to rest.
P.S. It was very interesting to see Augie
hold on for so long, even though she was in
so much pain...and at the moment she was
placed in her bedroom, where she spent so
much of her life, where she was the most
comfortable and safe...she let go, as if she
had to get back there first, so she could
die. Tags : pet hamster wet tail thedarkener augie |
